Hello, everyone! It’s been a long time since we last caught up. If you’re wondering why I didn’t update you all during the first term, it’s because our project this year is split into three parts, with each term bringing something new to do. Last semester, instead of blogging, I chose to write a book review. So much has happened since then, and I can’t wait to fill you all in!
We’ve already completed our first project, and yes, it was meditation again—but with a twist! This time, our instructor, Nadia, emailed us daily for five consecutive days, inviting us to a 15-minute meditation session. At the end of each session, Nadia would suggest a few random words and ask us to write a poem, using those words if we wanted. Now, I’ll admit I’m not much of a poet and really struggled with this at first. My initial attempts were mostly free verses with little rhythm. But after the second day, I felt my thoughts becoming clearer, and I started to make the most of those words in my writing. This project definitely pushed me out of my comfort zone, even though meditation itself is something I’m familiar with. I’m grateful that AEP continues to make us explore different new things!
Now, you might be wondering what we’re learning in AEP this term. Thankfully, we’re not doing essays anymore! Instead, we complete a worksheet each term that covers technical vocabulary for different topics. Last term, we focused on business terms, and this term it’s all about politics. I have mixed feelings about these lessons. Learning new words is always a plus, but the topics themselves can be, well… let’s say, interesting choices. That said, we did learn some new fun words in one lesson like "cattywampus" and "bamboozled," which I’ve now added to my daily vocabulary!
We still do those lovely warm-up games, though we only get five minutes for them now, unless we finish our lessons early and have extra time. Our go-to games are Squardle and Connections, but sometimes we throw in Hurdle and Waffle for variety.
All in all, AEP has been pretty relaxed this year. The class size is smaller, but I’m still enjoying it as much as ever. I’ll be writing one more blog post this semester to update you on what’s new. So, stay tuned, and see you all soon!
