Not too long ago, we had our second blog for the school year. Which seems crazy to think about it, just a few weeks ago we started school and were already on the third blog. We write a blog every other week or so, but overall it's been a long time since school started. We are way closer to the end of the term than the start, I never actually fully process that thought. Just a few more weeks, then the second term starts, and then it ends and the third term starts and suddenly it’s over. As mentioned during our class today, is to appreciate every little thing that happens in school, and to know that we’re very lucky and deserving to have this privilege.
Without further ado, let the blog begin!
September 25, 2024 - Breaking down graphs ?!
Started off with a warm up we hadn’t done before or at least we didn’t think we did. It was called “Strands”, it’s similar to Squardle but instead you cannot reuse the letters.
There were about seven words we had to find, I cannot recall any of the words but I’m pretty sure we found it in a reasonable amount of time.
Moving from the warmup, we had started discussing the homework and deadlines.
Some of us chose blogs and some chose books. I chose a blog because I find it way easier to do and less time consuming as I don’t have to do a different task to accomplish the homework. I just have to be in school for AEP, and only write about it, it feels faster to do. We then grabbed our folders and notebooks to check our previous mistakes on the worksheets and sentences we did. It was actually quite humbling.
Ms displayed a graph on the board regarding the crime rates, which is random and not an actual graph about real crimes. She split the graph into smaller parts for us to write about, she gave seven questions for us to do. If I was honest, I never expected myself doing this, I would see myself writing about the graph as a whole. There were three lines on the graphs, including burglary, car theft and robbery. We wrote small sections then slight bigger sections and then finally wrote for one whole point or line.
To end our day, we played a few games of unlimited wordle, I didn’t contribute since I was writing my padlet.
October 2, 2024 - Repeatedly writing verbs and adverbs?!
Instead of starting a new warmup, we continued one from a previous grade, grade 7 I believe. It was one of our personal favorites, Squardle! Now that I noticed, the person holding the pen always results in us going faster, slower or faster. This time we had Hyeono hold the pen, it was hectic. Not so hectic, surprisingly we had finished the game. Quite a shock since we were left with more difficult words, but I hate to admit Hyeono is pretty good at this game.
You may be questioning the title of the day for this lesson, yes we repeatedly wrote adverbs and verbs. Not just any verbs and adverbs, we were using this to correct our grammar and learn how to properly structure our sentences because we were not the best at it. There’s some examples I remember, “increased gradually” “increase dramatically”
.This is not something you see a modern class doing, apparently this was done in the olden days (I’m not sure how old). Right after writing, using the same graph and words, we were told to describe the graph without looking in a proper sentence, thankfully I succeeded.
Lastly, we had a seatwork regarding all the work we did. It was fill in the blanks, we had to fill it in with the correct adverb and verb with the given options. It may seem easy, trust me it isn’t. Upon recent checking of my scores, I think I could’ve done better, but there’s still time to improve. Overall, I found this lesson beneficial for my English as it isn’t my first language and because I was never properly taught these concepts.
Quote of the blog:
“Even with all the effort you put in, don’t expect full results, expect an increase in progress and improvement.”
