Welcome to the new year! One hopefully filled with exciting adventures (academic and not) that will disrupt my obnoxiously lengthy screen-time. Clearly, despite my hollow enthusiasm, I have not changed for the better this January.
Time runs quickly - and this time, I have not been able to catch it.
January 8 - Pie, anyone?
What better way to start the new year with a quick game of hurdle? In our case, it truly was quick. Three rounds and we have blundered. An unexpected defeat, but not an unfamiliar one.
Starting off with something we have experienced quite a bit last year, we reviewed charts. Though this time, we took on learning pie charts. Although they seemed intimidating at first, I got the hang of it and filled out blank spaces in my used-to-be empty worksheet.
January 15 - Again
What's more than a nice, simple Wordle game? 37. Imagine my surprise when the board displayed not one, not two - but 37 wordle games, all at once. We had to answer Wordle after Wordle after Wordles again and again. However, past its intense visuals, I managed to answer a good amount of the words through my groggy thoughts.
Once again, we reviewed pie charts. After staring at colorful circles, we had to write the main takeaways from them. I did not mind this at all, because it reflects on our past lessons on identifying key information from given graphs.
January 22 - Read, Reflect, Fix.
After an expected win against Wordle, we dove into our past mistakes - oddly terrifying. But it wasn't so bad after all. Thanks to this, I learned to prioritize the most important part of the sentence to be at the beginning, rather than focusing on the little details. After that, we fixed our mistakes. Though I was immensely tempted to peek at my past (mistakes), I had to face the future (sentences that must be written).
Ignoring the incoherent babbling from a disruptive student fixed to sitting next to me, I enjoyed as we wrote about pie charts again. Looking at information from different countries and about energy sources, I managed to come up with enough answers and key points of information.
Now that we are nearing the end of the month, and the first month of AEP this year has gone by, I feel rather melancholy. A few of my peers and I have experienced the class of AEP and Miss Disa's teaching together since Grade 7, and it is coming to an end soon. Recently, my parents have discussed plans of moving me to Filipino class next year to prepare for college. Despite all this, though, I will not forget the lessons Miss Disa has taught me through these years.
Since the beginning of this year, I started to realize how little time there is. Like a carefree bird, it flies on and on - aloof from our endless pleas to slow down.
