The FINAL Blog #3.3 - Aleena Imran - Grade 9

I can’t believe we are already writing the last blog of the school year, looking back at it makes me feel so old. I’ve written blogs for over three years in AEP, and it all comes down to this moment. I fail to recall the materials that we learnt earlier in the school year, but I can recall that we made loads of progress throughout the school year. All of the things we learned were for a reason, such as essay writing and learning past and present tenses. It wasn’t purposeless, it would significantly help us in the upcoming high school years. I’m insanely grateful for everything that our class has achieved throughout the school year.

Without further ado, let the blog begin !

March 19, 2025 - A Letter to my Younger Self ?!

For the majority of our two lessons, we wrote a letter to our younger self. It was quite peculiar since we have never done anything similar in our previous lessons. Though it was supposed to be a quiet session, there were certain students that were quite noisy. Either way, I tried my best to focus.

I quite enjoyed it since I could rant about what’s going on in my mind the previous weeks, all in one single paper. The words flow so easily once you set your mind to it, sometimes I wish I could do this more often.  It’s relaxing if there isn’t any background noise, such as people. Well, there was also background music which was just instrumental/beats. I hope we can do more activities related to this in the future.

We also had a quick game of Contexto, which we failed to accomplish.

March 26, 2025 - Unconscious during Break ?!

We began the lesson with a somewhat quick game of Hurdle, the kind where you don't know where the correct placement of the letters are. I do not recall who held the pen. Surprisingly, we were able to finish more quickly than we normally would, I guess our brains weren’t as fried.

We then copied the correct essay answer to our previous, which was about four to five paragraphs. The essay was about describing the changes between a map, it was quite detailed and shocked me how different mine was compared to it. It was rather lengthy and I found it slightly difficult to catch up as Ms was stating it. The language was somewhat more sophisticated than our level, but the sentences were longer than ours.

In our five to ten minute break, all of us blanked out immediately. All of our heads laid flat on the desk completely unconscious and unaware of what was happening in the surroundings. Except Sid, he was the most energetic and chatty person among us. I never understood why he's full of liveliness, school is so tiring. As soon as our break ended, Ms showed no remorse and told us to get our heads back up. A few extra minutes could’ve been nice : ] .

After gaining consciousness, we wrote sentences in passive tense regarding two maps. The map was displayed on the board and we all copied, pondering on what to write down on our notebooks. It could have been ten sentences, but Miss was feeling extra nice today, and I’m extra grateful for that. I would’ve not had the energy for that many sentences.

We also ended up accomplishing a game of Squardle.

April 02, 2025 - A Memory Game ?!

We started off with a non-board warmup, which was a memory game. In this game, the starting person adds to the list and the next person has to remember the previous item and also add on to it. But as more people add on to it, it’s more difficult to remember the previous items, as the list gets longer.

The sentence starts with “My grandma went to the market and bought apples, fish, seeds, cup noodles, basil, dil, a live chicken, cucumber, oranges, truffle and bananas. “. The list goes on as there is a second round. We also attempted another round, which was saying the list alphabetically. Somehow, Hyeonseo was able to do it.

We then answered a worksheet regarding past tenses, it included stating ten sentences regarding the differences of two maps. Surprisingly, such simple sentences took me almost two lessons to think of. It included simple and past perfect, which I don’t get since I never really grew up learning about it. As much as I didn’t enjoy it, I believe it was quite helpful for future school lessons.

Quote of the blog:

“You don’t have to enjoy a task in order to accomplish it, you just put your mind to it .“

Aleena Imran - BLOG #3.2 - Grade 9

I honestly cannot believe we are already halfway through the third term, it feels like we started it yesterday. This will be one of the last blogs we’ll be writing for the school year, which seems so crazy. As much as I’m not fond of writing blogs, it’s still a reminder that we shared our moments together in AEP.   March 5, 2025 -  An Off-Board Warmup? This warmup was unlike our other ones. We usually have our warmups on the board, such as Wordle, Hurdle or waffle. But this time, all we had on the board was a map. Everyone had to state one sentence about the two maps shown on the screen, but there was a plot twist, you had to remember what the previous person stated and add on to it. As more people stated their sentences, it only got difficult, it meant you had to remember more sentences, but in the correct order. I wasn’t able to remember the sentences in order, but I still enjoyed watching other students struggling to remember the sentences.  Later on, we g...

Abracadabra — Leo Blog 3.2

This term, we've begun with a list of terms related to environment, ranging from the devastating crises happening around the globe to the lovely descriptions of catastrophes caused by man. While it's a very fun and a not-so content-heavy topic, it reminds us that we can't say ' abracadabra ' to felled trees and watch as they rise from the ashes of our ancestors. Well, it's a shame, really. Would've loved to see some of the forests and wildlife that existed before the world began pumping steam and breathing coal. The first thing we did when we got to the third term was pairing words to form collocations. There were a variety of them, 42 collocations to be exact, and we had to figure them out. Most were easy, words we knew were things like 'climate change' or 'heat wave', but some were new. 'Paddy farming', 'septic tanks' and other words were quite interesting. Unfortunately, I wasn't there for the AEP period the week after...

End and the start of term!

Helloooo everyone! Welcome with another blast! See, your favorite blogger is not late this time!!! And that is because it's just the start of another term, and the workload from school is quite light. Can you believe it's the last term already?? I am still in disbelief—only 2/3 of grade 11 is left, and then our final year of high school... I don't even want to think about it! We have learned a lot of things in AEP last term, including discovering new games and learning a lot more of Miss Disa's fun anecdotes. AEP this year has taught me a lot of technical terms as we have been getting lessons on very niche and specific topics. You know how a word appears a lot when you newly learn it? Now, due to my expansion of vocabulary, I started seeing the words I am learning everywhere, and that brings a bit of peace in me, as I think, well, I am learning something. We had worksheets on Healthcare, Crime and Punishment, Business, and Politics. My favorite among them was the health...
